Tiramisu – the classic Italian dessert! Creamy mascarpone, delicate ladyfingers, and aromatic espresso combine to create an irresistible treat. Discover the recipe now!

Calories & Effort

  • Calories per serving (for 8 servings): approx. 350 kcal
  • Preparation time: approx. 30 minutes
  • Total time: approx. 4 hours (including cooling time)
  • Servings: For 8 people

Ingredients

For the Tiramisu:

  • 400 g ladyfingers
  • 500 g mascarpone
  • 4 fresh eggs (size M)
  • 120 g sugar
  • 250 ml espresso (cooled)
  • 50 ml amaretto (optional)

For the topping:

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Preparation

1. Prepare the espresso

  1. Make the espresso fresh and let it cool completely.
  2. Add the amaretto if desired and stir well.

2. Make the mascarpone cream

  1. Separate the eggs. Beat the egg yolks with the sugar in a bowl until the mixture is light and creamy.
  2. Gradually stir in the mascarpone into the egg yolk-sugar mixture until a smooth cream is formed.
  3. Whip the egg whites in a fat-free bowl until stiff and gently fold them into the mascarpone cream to achieve an airy consistency.

3. Layer the Tiramisu

  1. Spread a thin layer of mascarpone cream in a rectangular dish (approx. 20 x 30 cm).
  2. Briefly dip the ladyfingers into the espresso-amaretto mix (not too long, so they don't get soggy) and place them closely together in the dish.
  3. Add a layer of mascarpone cream on top of the ladyfingers and smooth it out.
  4. Repeat the process until all ingredients are used up. The top layer should consist of cream.

4. Cool and serve

  1. Let the Tiramisu rest in the refrigerator for at least 3–4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Dust with unsweetened cocoa powder just before serving.

Pro Tips for Perfect Tiramisu

  1. Mascarpone:
Use high-quality mascarpone for the best creaminess and authentic flavor.
  2. Espresso:
A strong espresso provides the typical Italian taste. Instant coffee should be avoided.
  3. Alcohol:
Amaretto gives the Tiramisu a fine almond note. For a non-alcoholic version, you can use vanilla extract.
  4. Ladyfingers:
Dip the ladyfingers only briefly in the espresso so that they retain their shape and the dessert doesn't become too mushy.
  5. Storage:
Tiramisu should always be stored well chilled and consumed within 2 days.

Product Knowledge: Mascarpone and Ladyfingers

Mascarpone

  • Mascarpone is an Italian cream cheese with a high fat content. It provides the creamy texture and rich flavor of the Tiramisu.

Ladyfingers

  • The crispy biscuits absorb the espresso perfectly and give the dessert its typical structure.

What Can Go Wrong – and How to Fix It?

  1. Cream too runny:

    • Cause: Mascarpone was stirred too vigorously or egg whites were not beaten stiff enough.
    • Solution: Gently fold in the mascarpone and whip the egg whites properly until stiff.
  2. Ladyfingers too mushy:

    • Cause: Biscuits were soaked in the espresso for too long.
    • Solution: Dip the biscuits only briefly so they do not absorb all the liquid.
  3. Cocoa powder clumps:

    • Cause: Dusting too early or unevenly distributed.
    • Solution: Sprinkle cocoa powder just before serving using a fine sieve.

Why Love This Recipe?

Tiramisu is more than a dessert – it is a piece of Italian joy of life. The perfect balance of creamy mascarpone, strong espresso, and the delicate sweetness of ladyfingers makes this classic a highlight of any table. Easy to prepare and always a delight!
