Countless adventures await guests in the Tauferer Ahrntal, which presents itself year-round in an incomparable atmosphere. Here, nature still sets the tone, and the breathtaking mountain world can be conquered on hikes of all difficulty levels.
Vacation with the whole family
The Tauferer Ahrntal is considered one of the most original valleys in South Tyrol and is especially known as a paradise for nature and hiking. It is extremely impressive that the valley is surrounded by around 80 three-thousanders, providing unique nature experiences. Moreover, the holiday region is very family-friendly and offers plenty of variety for both large and small guests. A highly recommended route is the circular path Hexensteig in St. Johann, where climbing rocks, a bear cave, and a witch's chair await adventurers. Alternatively, one can visit the climbing garden "Kofler between the walls," which also features a petting zoo and a children's playground. If the weather doesn't cooperate, a detour to the mining museum Schaubergwerk Prettau is worthwhile, where visitors can take the mine train into the St. Ignaz heritage tunnel. Another highlight is the Alpine Coaster "Klausberg Flitzer," located right next to the Alm-Water Adventure World Klausberg, which includes a water seesaw, mud pool, and rafts.
Impressive experiences in nature
A visit to the Reinbach Falls, which are among the most spectacular waterfalls in South Tyrol, is of course a must. Visitors reach the waterfalls via the so-called Franziskusweg, which was designed by artists from the Ahrntal. The numerous mountain lakes are also extremely fascinating. For example, a tour to Klaussee is worthwhile, from where a spectacular view of the Zillertal peaks can be enjoyed.
Popular sights and traditions
The Taufers Castle is hard to miss, having been owned by the South Tyrolean Castle Institute since 1977 and attracting thousands of visitors each year. Particularly impressive are the armory, the knights' hall, and the library. In Luttach, interested visitors can also find the Maranatta Christmas Museum, where various Alpine nativity scenes can be admired. Those who wish can also visit the Church of the Holy Spirit in Kasern, which was built in the 15th century and has developed into a popular pilgrimage church. Another highlight is the autumn festival with the alpine descent, which takes place every October.
Winter wonderland
The Taufer Ahrntal also offers excellent conditions in winter. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy themselves at Speikboden, Kronplatz, or Klausberg; the ski areas Weißenbach and Rein in Taufers are small but charming. Furthermore, winter sports enthusiasts have the opportunity to glide through the wonderful nature on a total of 51 kilometers of cross-country ski trails or to enjoy the spectacular landscape on a winter hike.
