Unlimited Hiking Fun
Especially in the warm season, nature lovers and mountain enthusiasts can fully enjoy the Sarntal. The panoramic platform Kreuzjoch, located at an altitude of 2086 meters, offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. In the eastern Sarntaler Alps, there is also the panoramic platform Sattele, which can be reached by cable car or on foot from the Pfnatschalm or the Pichlbergalm. Of course, the "Stoanernen Mandlen" are very well-known, surrounded by many myths and legends. One should not miss the blooming of the alpine roses at the Penser Joch, a natural spectacle that visitors can enjoy every year between mid-June and mid-July.
Winter Fun and Cabin Joy
In winter, the family ski area Reinswald attracts with 22 kilometers of slopes and a Sunpark, where adrenaline fans can prove their skills at a total of 18 obstacles. A profound way to experience winter in the Sarntal is through ski touring, such as to the Hörtlaner Spitze, or through snowshoe hikes to the Fortschellscharte. Afterwards, one should definitely stop by a cabin and end the day with traditional South Tyrolean specialties.
Culture and Traditions
Tradition plays a very significant role in the Sarntal. Many residents wear the local costume on Sundays and sometimes even on weekdays, which is considered one of the purest costumes in the German-speaking area. In addition, the region is known for the so-called "Klöckeln," an old Advent custom where masked men go from house to house making a lot of noise. Culture enthusiasts also have the opportunity to visit the Rohrerhaus in Sarnthein. The old farmhouse with a bread oven and smoke kitchen has been converted into a museum, and guided tours are available upon request. Those interested can also watch a Sarntaler craftsman at work, as there are numerous traditional businesses in the valley, such as turning shops, feather stitch embroidery, or weaving.
