In the South Tyrolean Eggental, visitors will find the legendary Rosengarten as well as the Latemar mountain range. Nature lovers can fully enjoy this area in spring and summer as well as in autumn and winter.
The Realm of King Laurin
The Rosengarten is a mountain massif in the Dolomites, rising between the Fassa Valley and the Tiers Valley. Together with the Latemar area, it forms a very popular holiday region that attracts skiers and mountain enthusiasts from near and far. The Rosengarten gained great fame primarily due to its evening glow. At sunset, the rocks glow pink, creating a unique and spectacular natural spectacle. According to a legend, the Rosengarten area was inhabited by a race of dwarfs, whose ruler was King Laurin. When he was captured in battle, he cast a curse on the Rosengarten, declaring that no one should ever see the garden – neither by day nor by night. However, he forgot about twilight, during which the Rosengarten still blooms today. The Rosengarten extends over a length of about eight kilometers, with the Schlern to the north and the Karersee to the south. The highest peak of the Rosengarten is the Kesselkogel, at an elevation of 3004 meters, followed by the Rosengartenspitze, which is 2981 meters high.
Imposing Elevation
Many climbers are also drawn to the famous Latemarspitze, which is considered the most significant peak in the Latemar massif. The Latemarspitze is climbed via the Große Latemarscharte, with either Obereggen or the Reiterjoch as starting points. To the north of the Latemarspitze lies the Karersee, where the Latemar mountain range is reflected in a very impressive way, making it a highly popular photographic motif.
South Tyrolean Bike Jewel
Since 2016, there has also been a large training park at the foot of the Rosengarten, known as the Carezza Trail, which offers the best conditions for all bikers. The trail begins at the Frommer Alm and has a total length of 4.4 kilometers, during which athletes must demonstrate their skills at various stations such as a jumpline, switchbacks, balance northshores, or drops.
