Honey contains around 200 different ingredients, which vary depending on the type such as forest honey, dandelion honey, alpine rose honey, or mixed blossom honey. Honey is primarily used as a food, making it suitable as a sweetener in tea, as a spread on bread, or even in combination with cheese. In addition, this popular product also has healing properties and is used in natural medicine.
Strict quality controls
South Tyrolean honey is especially known for its outstanding quality and purity. Beekeepers must undergo strict hygiene inspections, and heating to high temperatures is avoided in order to preserve the ingredients. Furthermore, only ripe honey is taken from the beehive, resulting in a water content of only 18.5 percent. To produce one kilogram of honey, bees fly out around 60,000 times and transport three kilograms of nectar — not without reason are they considered very hardworking animals.
Diverse flavor palette
Since the beehives are located both in alpine pastures and in the valley, the honey offers a very diverse taste experience with a wide range of aromas. In addition, the taste and color of the honey are also influenced by South Tyrol's diverse plant life. This allows beekeepers to deliver a wide variety of honey types, such as a dark forest honey or a lighter blossom honey.
