Asparagus Lasagna with Easter Ham

Ingredients:

  • 500g fresh green asparagus
  • 9 lasagna sheets (pre-cooked or oven-ready) dough recipe
  • 250g ricotta
  • 200g grated mozzarella
  • 50g grated parmesan
  • 300ml béchamel sauce
  • 150-200g Easter ham, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Nutmeg (optional)
Preparation:
  1. Prepare the asparagus: Wash the asparagus, trim the woody ends, and cut into pieces about 3 cm long. Heat the olive oil in a pan and sauté the asparagus for 5-7 minutes until slightly tender. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Prepare the béchamel sauce: (If not already prepared) Melt butter in a pot, add flour, and stir to make a roux. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  3. Layer the lasagna: Cover the bottom of a baking dish with some béchamel sauce. Place a layer of lasagna sheets on top, followed by a layer of asparagus, some slices of Easter ham, ricotta, a bit of mozzarella, and béchamel sauce. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used, with the final layer being béchamel sauce and mozzarella. Sprinkle with parmesan.
  4. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the lasagna is hot.
  5. Serve: Let cool for a few minutes before serving, then cut into pieces and enjoy.
Tips:
  • The addition of thin slices of ham adds an extra layer of flavor to the lasagna and makes the dish even heartier.
  • Be sure to distribute the ham evenly so that each portion gets a good mix of all ingredients.
This variation of asparagus lasagna with the addition of Easter ham offers a wonderful combination of the fresh flavors of spring and the savory depth of the ham. It is an excellent choice for an Easter meal or any spring celebration.
