For example, a ride on the Vinschger Radweg is recommended, which starts at the Reschenpass and leads bikers all the way to Meran. It is considered one of the most varied cycling routes in South Tyrol and runs largely along former Roman roads.
Diversity of Apples in the Merano Area
The Merano area also offers a great variety of different apple varieties. Here, for example, you can find varieties like Golden Delicious or Jonagold, but also very old varieties such as Weirouge or Winterkalvill. A hike along the apple path, which starts at the tourism office in Dorf Tirol and continues through the orchards, is highly recommended. At various stations, you will also learn a lot of interesting information about apple cultivation, the apple varieties, and the tasks that arise throughout the year.
South Tyrol's South in Full Bloom
A detour to South Tyrol's south is also worthwhile during the apple blossom, where especially the towns of Neumarkt, Auer, Kurtatsch, Tramin, Eppan, and Terlan offer great views. Here, you can hike along the so-called Choleraweg, which starts at the town hall square in Tramin and offers an unforgettable panorama of the apple trees. If you wish, you can also take a bike tour on the Überetsch cycle path, which begins near the Sigmundskron train station and continues to Eppan or Kaltern. During the tour, you can take in the beauty of the surroundings, such as historical villages, castles, or orchards.
Blooming Apple Trees in the Eisack Valley
The Eisack Valley is also a highly recommended destination during the apple blossom. Particularly known here is the Royal Festival, which takes place every year on May 1st in Natz-Schabs, where the new apple queen is crowned. Additionally, there is an approximately 7.5-kilometer apple educational path on the high plateau of Natz-Schabs leading to Raas, where you can learn a lot about regional apple cultivation. At the viewpoint Ölberg, you should plan a break to fully enjoy the impressive panoramic view.
Interesting Apple Tours
If you wish, you can also participate in a tour through the enchanting apple meadows and then, of course, taste the most popular apple varieties. Such tours are offered, for example, in Dorf Tirol, Tramin, or Terlan, and more information can be found at www.suedtirolerapfel.com.
